Kraus attacked the "ghetto-mentality" and urged all Jews to jettison their beliefs, rituals and manners for the assimilation to the dominant society. In Eine Krone für Zion (1898) Kraus mocked the views of Theodor Herzl, the propagandist and founder of the Zionist movement. As a result, Kraus was described as "an exquisitely Jewish anti-Semite".
